6-word Memoir #1

Moved often. Never really fit in.

Werther

Werther was a man whose demise ultimate resulted in his over-heightened sensitivity and overwhelming passion for a woman that he had met during his lifetime. He feels are not foreign, for the affects of love can do numerous things to an individual. Secondly, being in love is a common feeling for numerous individuals around the world. Unfortunately in Werther's case, his love eventually consumed his life, and seeing no way for his feelings to ever be resolved, he saw no other option but to take his own life. Her name was Charlotte, and unfortunately for Werther, Charlotte was already attached upon their first meeting, making his hopes unattainable. However, he refused to believe this, and sought her returning affection with every ounce of his energy. Her talks with him or simple accidental brushes of the hand would send his emotions into "over-drive". Unfortunately for Werther, he would take each of these talks and accidental touches as signs of Charlotte's undevoted love for him, when in reality she viewed him as no more than a friend. In the end, whether by accident or somehow a scheme, Charlotte was ultimately the individual who gave Werther the hunting guns that he used to end his life.

I think Werther needed help, and that was something he never sought in his life. Instead, he chose to keep his feelings pent up inside, letting them drive him completely over the edge. Yes, he wrote letters to his friend about his love woes, however writing letters to someone is a completely different matter entirely. He needed the words, the re-enforcement that if he did not ever obtain Charlotte's love, that did not mean he had nothing else to live for in his life. Time is what he needed. Eventually, I believe that Werther would have found someone to fill the hole in his heart and teach him that there was more to live for than the love of one individual. With time, I think Werther's engulfing pain would have turned into a dull ache that he could live with. Werther did not need to take his own life.

Blog #7

Werther has a serious case of depression through his obsession with a young woman named Charlotte, whom he calls "Lotte." His mind is consumed with his affections of Lotte even though she is engaged to Albert. Although Werther is close friends with the couple, he has few other relationships to comfort himself with. He is extremely hurt when he is with or away from Lotte because of the situation. I have told Werther to go away for a while and to try to disconnect from Lotte and form new close friendships. He has agreed to travel from Wahlheim to Weimar. I hope that this will help ease his mind, but I fear that he will be devastated if he returns (I should say when because I know he will return) to find Lotte married to Albert. She loves Werther, but not in the same way that he loves her. I have tried to console Werther as much as I can, but his chronic depression is the worst case I have encountered.
