Blog #2

I believe that everything happens for a reason. In some ways everyone has a choice in what happens in their life. Although I do not have a set religion that I am adamant about, I strongly feel within myself that there is someone or something out in the universe that knows and sets a path for us. Whether it is god or someone else, I do believe in a force that guides us through life. In the end the choices we make turn into fate. Is it fate that brought a couple together? No. Ultimately you have to make a decision that leads to what happens. For example driving to the store and then getting a ticket for going fast. You make the choice to drive to the store and then the choice to drive fast. I do believe that sometimes the universe brings situations and incidents into your life to test a person's strength and character. Like natural disasters or deaths. Unplanned and uncontrollable incidents is fate taking a hand in ones life.

For our protagonist Oedipus, every action he does ultimately leads him into a trap. This was created by Sophocles. I do not believe that he has a choice in what happens in his life. With his predetermined future ahead of him he tries to avoid it but ultimately fails. It was all supposed to happen and choosing to murder his father was not a matter of fate. In the end, his fate is inevidible.
