Blog #3

Lord Acton's quote is entirely true. When a person is given no reigns on how much power they have, a human becomes completely corrupt. Throughout the history of the world, the most powerful leaders have had terrible ways of ruling and unmerited crimes. Unfortunately this is what made them most cogent and convincing, along with being completely intimidating. With no limits they begin to loose their minds. For our character Creon, he beings to feel paranoid that everyone is trying to take his throne. Ultimately by the time he recognizes his lapse in judgment he is too late. Because of the blindness that power presents many forget to make rational decisions. Everything is put on them so I can see how stressful that is.

A good example of this would be Saddam Hussein, former president of Iraq until his public execution in 2003. Although he did raise Iraq's economic status with major oil issues, he was regrettably involved in the power of corruption. He was one sided and had many aggressive tactics which involved fighting to keep his money. Caught up in himself, his face was plastered on sides of schools, offices, buses, statues and even currency. When given ultimate power people become wrapped up in themselves, and the outcome is never good.
