Revenge can mean many different things or ideas to different people. Some people view revenge as getting back at someone or giving them "a taste of their own medicine". To others it may mean plotting an elaborate scheme to punish the person that wronged them. In many cases, the scheme is simply of malicious intent and unrelated to the wrong action inflicted on the person. In Medea's case, her plot of revenge is very extreme compared to Jason's wrong deed. Though his leaving her and the kids was not ideal, killing Jason's wife and her father is by no means an equal form of revenge.

I myself somewhat believe in revenge, in certain situations. If the situation or the revenge are reasonable, revenge should be allowed. On the other hand, if the revenge would cause even more problems, it is not necessary. For example, if one person steals something of another, that is not an invitation to steal something from the first person. If the person whose items were stolen however, wishes to have the thief pay for their actions, whether literally or figuratively, they should be allowed a defense. The victim, if he may be so called, has a right to make the person who wronged him feel as he felt when his items were stolen. If people did not seek revenge, even of a mild sort, society would be weak and spineless, for others would have to walk all over us. In many cases, karma applies, and if the so-called revenge is not of a destructive nature, a person who has wronged someone can deserve to feel the same way if put into a similar position.

However, going to extremes over a small situation is not necessary. Sometimes revenge only complicates manners, like it certainly did in Medea's situation. Too much animosity and revenge-seeking behavior creates violent personalities, and can cause a simple situation to spiral out of control. In many cases, no matter how badly someone has wrong us, we have to realize that people are not perfect, they make mistakes, and we just have to let it go.
