#7

Werther exhibited highly emotional states throughout in his letters to Wilheim. He was a virtual rollercoaster, expressing how he was experiencing the greatest of joys then plummeting to the depths of depression. He was guilty of over analyzing every transaction with Lotte. If she scolded him, Werther would muse over the negative and positive connotations Lotte was giving off, rather then taking it for what it was. If she brushed his hand, Werther would take that small transaction and turn it into the possibility of marriage with her.

Then, He also exhibited signs of being an emotional cutter. He knew Lotte was engaged; yet trying to spend as much time possible with her as possible. He made it even worse when trying to get close to her family, showing signs that he was probably addicted to the pain. He knew he would never break the engagement between Lotte and her fiancé, and the fact that he was so drawn too them was a sigh of his deterioration into mental instability.

In order to held Werther, I would tell him to find another outlet to fulfill his life so he would not concentrate all of his efforts on something that would clearly only end in disaster. In the mean time he should move away from Lotte, far away to a new place that was just as transfixing as Wahlheim. Then he should follow a more disciplined lifestyle, not slacking on his work and being more diligent at his job. Then finally, he should start a search for someone just as special to him as Lotte was, but who was not engaged in order to fill the void that so desperately haunted him.
