In the tragic case of Wherther I observed many things. First, his obsession Lotte. Wherther pursued a woman that he knew he would never have. This chase left him with chronic feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. What made the situation worse was the fact that Lotte and her family were his only close friends, and he had no one else to console with. Because Wherther lived by himself, he was left alone all day to think and write. Being alone for too long is never a good situation because you are left with just thoughts. What made matters heighten was the fact that he did not have a real job. The obsession grew because he did not have any outside judgment on his infatuation with Lotte. If he did, they would have told him that he needed to get her out of his head. Although he may have wanted to get away from her, there was no other solution other than moving. Once he moved though, she was all that was on his mind. Wherther experienced bolts of mood swings and had very high emotions and could be ith classified with severe anxiety and depression. Wherther was not rational at all, and he seemed to have a 'woe is me' type of personality. He needed constant attention from everyone else around him to feel whole.
To help Wherther, I would prescribe him to anti depressants and get him a pet. A pet would help him out because at least he would have someone to tell his problems to and he would also be distracted from Lotte with the duties involving taking care of an animal. The next best solution would be to relocate him to an area where he has a multitude of family and friends that can show him constant support and love. Wherther would need things to distract him from his current situation. This would be beneficial to him because then he would not be cooped up in a house all day with only one thing to think/ write about. Maybe even staging an intervention with all of this loved ones to show him an outside perspective of the obsession that consumed his life.
