Blog #7
Werther’s story is a sad one. He was one of the people that simply can not let go of what is not theirs. He loved Lottie and did not want to give her up, that is a part of human nature. To want to keep what love even if it is not to the good of the object of our desire. However, people have to learn to let go and move on. While Werther made an attempt at moving on, he simply was not able to live without Lottie. He was love struck, but he should have realized that visiting her every day would not help him or anyone move on from the situation. He instead made Lottie and her husband uncomfortable as well as wallowing in misery himself. Werther was a desperate man. He was desperate for the attention of the woman he loved. It is sad that he did not have the willpower to walk away, because if he had then he might have had the strength to continue on with life and perhaps have found someone else to make him happy and to share his life with. Werther was not crazy. He was just very dramatic and devoted to the woman that was his obsession. The obsession is a little worrying, however, he was in love and obsession often goes hand in hand with love. Especially for people as dramatic as young Werther. One only has to read the letters he wrote to be sure that one thing that Werther had was a flair for the dramatic.
